How to Connect Shopify to Claude AI (Step-by-Step Guide)

If you want to ask Claude questions about your Shopify store — revenue, orders, products, customers, inventory — you need a way to connect your store data to Claude. Here's exactly how to do it using Ask AI Data Connector and MCP (Model Context Protocol).

What you'll be able to do

Once connected, you can ask Claude things like:

"What was my revenue this month compared to last month?"
"Which products are my top sellers by profit margin?"
"Show me customers who ordered more than 3 times this year"
"Which products have less than 2 weeks of stock left?"
"Give me a Monday morning briefing with all the key metrics"

Prerequisites

A Shopify store
A Claude.ai account (Pro or Team plan recommended for Connectors)

Step 1: Sign up for Ask AI Data Connector

Go to ask-ai-data-connector.co.uk/signup and create an account. You can sign up with email or Google.

Step 2: Connect Shopify

From your dashboard, go to Data Sources and click Shopify. You'll be redirected to Shopify to authorise read-only access. We never modify your store data.

The sync starts automatically and typically takes under a minute for most stores.

Step 3: Connect other data sources (optional)

While you're here, you can also connect Klaviyo, Google Analytics, Triple Whale, Gorgias, Xero, and 13 other tools. The real power is cross-source queries — like "Which Klaviyo campaigns drove the most Shopify orders?"

Step 4: Go to the AI Tools page

Navigate to AI Tools in your dashboard. This is where you'll find your MCP URL and setup instructions for each AI tool.

Step 5: Add the MCP connector to Claude

Open claude.ai
Go to Settings → Connectors → Add Custom Connector
Give it a name (e.g. "My Shopify Data")
Paste the Remote MCP server URL from your AI Tools page
Click Add

Claude will open an authorisation window. Sign in with the same email you used for Ask AI, and approve access.

Step 6: Start asking questions

Open a new Claude conversation and try:

"What were my top 10 products by revenue this month?"

Claude will call the Ask AI MCP tools, query your Shopify data, and return a real answer with actual numbers from your store.

Tips for better queries

Be specific: "Compare revenue this month to last month" works better than "How's revenue?"
Ask follow-ups: "Why did revenue drop?" → "Which products lost the most sales?" → "Were any of those out of stock?"
Cross-reference: "Which Klaviyo campaigns drove the most Shopify orders?" combines email and store data
