How to Connect WooCommerce to AI (Step-by-Step Guide)
If you run a WooCommerce store, you already have a wealth of data sitting in your WordPress backend — orders, products, customers, inventory, coupons. The problem is getting answers out of it. WooCommerce's built-in reporting is limited, and most store owners end up exporting CSVs or toggling between plugins to piece together a picture of their business.
There's a better way. Ask AI Data Connector lets you connect your WooCommerce store to AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity — so you can ask plain-English questions and get real answers from your actual store data.
Why WooCommerce store owners should connect to AI
WooCommerce powers over 35% of all online stores. It's flexible, open-source, and deeply integrated with the WordPress ecosystem. But that flexibility comes with a cost: analytics are scattered across WooCommerce reports, Google Analytics, email plugins, and accounting tools. Pulling together a complete view of your business means jumping between dashboards or building spreadsheets by hand.
AI changes that. Once your WooCommerce data is connected, you can:
- Ask questions in plain English instead of navigating report menus
- Get instant answers about revenue, orders, customers, and inventory
- Spot trends by asking follow-up questions ("Why did revenue drop last week?" then "Which products lost the most sales?")
- Combine data sources so your AI can cross-reference WooCommerce with Klaviyo, Google Analytics, Gorgias, and more
If you've seen what Shopify store owners can do with AI-connected data, the same benefits apply to WooCommerce — and the setup is just as straightforward.
What WooCommerce data gets synced
When you connect WooCommerce through Ask AI, your AI tool gets access to:
- Orders — order totals, line items, statuses, refunds, shipping details, payment methods, and order dates
- Products — names, prices, descriptions, categories, tags, variations, images, and stock status
- Customers — names, email addresses, order history, total spend, and account creation dates
- Inventory — stock quantities, stock status, low-stock thresholds, and backorder settings
- Coupons — discount codes, usage counts, discount types, and expiry dates
All access is read-only. We never modify your WooCommerce store.
How to connect: step by step
Step 1: Sign up for Ask AI Data Connector
Go to ask-ai-data-connector.co.uk/signup and create an account with email or Google.
Step 2: Generate WooCommerce API credentials
WooCommerce uses the WordPress REST API for external connections. You'll need a consumer key and consumer secret:
- In your WordPress admin, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > REST API
- Click Add key
- Give it a description (e.g. "Ask AI Data Connector")
- Set permissions to Read (read-only access is all that's needed)
- Click Generate API key
- Copy the Consumer key and Consumer secret — you'll need both in the next step
Step 3: Connect WooCommerce in your dashboard
From your Ask AI dashboard, go to Data Sources and click WooCommerce. Enter your store URL along with the consumer key and consumer secret you just generated. Click Connect and the initial sync will start automatically.
Step 4: Connect your AI tool
Navigate to AI Tools in your dashboard. You'll find setup instructions and connection URLs for each supported AI tool:
- Claude — add the remote MCP server URL as a Custom Connector in Claude Settings
- ChatGPT — use the OpenAPI Action URL in a Custom GPT
- Gemini — connect via function calling and the REST API endpoint
- Perplexity — add the MCP server URL (Pro plan)
Detailed setup instructions for each tool are on the AI Tools page.
Example queries
Once connected, try asking your AI:
"What was my total WooCommerce revenue this month compared to last month?"
"Which 10 products generated the most revenue in the last 90 days?"
"Show me all customers who have placed more than 5 orders this year, sorted by total spend."
"Which products are low on stock and had strong sales last month?"
"How many orders used a coupon code this quarter? What was the average discount amount?"
"What's my average order value trend over the last 6 months?"
"Give me a weekly summary: total orders, revenue, new customers, and top-selling products."
The AI queries your real WooCommerce data and returns specific numbers — not generic advice.
Combining WooCommerce with other data sources
This is where things get powerful. WooCommerce store owners typically use several other tools alongside their store. Ask AI supports connecting multiple sources at once, so your AI can cross-reference data across platforms:
- WooCommerce + Klaviyo — "Which email campaigns drove the most WooCommerce orders this month?"
- WooCommerce + GA4 — "What's my conversion rate by traffic source? Which channels bring the highest AOV?"
- WooCommerce + Gorgias — "Which products generate the most support tickets relative to their sales volume?"
- WooCommerce + Xero — "My WooCommerce revenue was $50K but Xero shows $41K net profit. What are my top expense categories?"
These cross-source queries are impossible in any single dashboard. They take seconds with AI.
Works with Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity
Ask AI Data Connector is not locked to a single AI tool. You can connect your WooCommerce data to whichever AI assistant you prefer — or use multiple at once. Claude and Perplexity connect via MCP (Model Context Protocol). ChatGPT connects via Custom GPT Actions. Gemini connects via REST API.
Your data stays the same regardless of which AI tool you use. Switch between them freely or stick with your favourite.
Security
- Read-only access — we never create, modify, or delete anything in your store
- AES-256-GCM encryption — your API credentials are encrypted at rest
- No training — your data is never used to train AI models
- You control access — revoke the API key from WooCommerce at any time
