How to Connect Klaviyo to AI (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini & Perplexity)

klaviyoaiemail-marketingtutorial

Most email marketers spend their mornings pulling reports from Klaviyo, exporting CSVs, and building spreadsheets just to answer straightforward questions. How did last week's campaign perform? Which flow is generating the most revenue? Is subscriber engagement trending up or down?

What if you could just ask — in plain English — and get an answer in seconds? That's what connecting Klaviyo to AI gives you.

Why connecting Klaviyo to AI matters

Klaviyo holds some of the most valuable data in your marketing stack: campaign performance, flow analytics, subscriber behavior, revenue attribution, and engagement trends. But getting answers out of it usually means clicking through dashboards, filtering date ranges, and comparing metrics manually.

When you connect Klaviyo to an AI tool like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity, you skip all of that. You ask a question, the AI queries your real Klaviyo data, and you get an actual answer — not generic email marketing advice, but numbers from your account.

This is especially useful for:

  • Quick daily checks — open rates, click rates, and revenue without opening Klaviyo
  • Comparing campaigns — instantly see which subject line or audience segment performed best
  • Flow analysis — understand which automated flows are driving results and which need attention
  • Trend spotting — catch engagement drops or subscriber growth changes before they become problems

What Klaviyo data gets synced

Ask AI Data Connector syncs the following from your Klaviyo account:

  • Campaigns — send volume, open rates, click rates, revenue per recipient, bounce rates, and unsubscribes
  • Flows — performance metrics for each automated flow and individual flow messages
  • Lists and segments — subscriber counts, growth rates, and list health
  • Metrics and events — placed orders, revenue attribution, and custom event data
  • Profiles — subscriber engagement history, suppression status, and activity

All data is read-only. We never modify anything in your Klaviyo account.

Step-by-step connection guide

The whole setup takes about 5 minutes.

Step 1: Sign up for Ask AI Data Connector

Go to ask-ai-data-connector.co.uk/signup and create a free account. No credit card required — you get a 3-day free trial.

Step 2: Generate a Klaviyo API key

  1. Log in to your Klaviyo account
  2. Go to Settings and then API Keys
  3. Click Create Private API Key
  4. Give it a name like "Ask AI" and select Read Only access
  5. Copy the key — you'll need it in the next step

Read-only access is all that's needed. The connector never writes to your Klaviyo account.

Step 3: Connect Klaviyo in Ask AI

From your Ask AI dashboard, go to Data Sources and click Klaviyo. Paste your API key and click Connect. Your data will start syncing immediately — most accounts finish in under a minute.

Step 4: Connect your AI tool

Navigate to AI Tools in your dashboard. You'll find setup instructions for each supported tool:

  • Claude — paste the Remote MCP server URL into Settings, then Connectors, then Add Custom Connector
  • ChatGPT — create a Custom GPT with the OpenAPI specification URL and API key
  • Gemini — use the REST API endpoint with function calling
  • Perplexity — connect via MCP (requires Pro plan)

Each tool queries the same underlying data, so pick whichever you prefer — or use more than one.

Example queries to try

Once connected, start with questions like these:

"Which Klaviyo campaigns had the highest open rate this month?"

"How much revenue did my abandoned cart flow generate in the last 30 days?"

"Compare my email click-through rates this quarter to last quarter."

"Which flow messages have the highest unsubscribe rate?"

"Show me my top 5 campaigns by revenue per recipient this year."

"How many new subscribers did I gain each week over the past month?"

"What percentage of my total revenue is attributed to email?"

The AI works with your real data, so the answers reflect what's actually happening in your account — not hypothetical benchmarks.

Cross-source power: Klaviyo plus Shopify

Connecting Klaviyo on its own is useful. Connecting it alongside Shopify is where things get genuinely powerful.

When both data sources are connected, you can ask questions that span email marketing and store performance:

"Which Klaviyo campaigns drove the most Shopify orders last month?"

"What's the average order value for customers who came through my welcome flow vs. direct traffic?"

These kinds of cross-source questions would normally require exporting data from two platforms, matching it up in a spreadsheet, and running your own analysis. With both sources connected, you just ask.

Other cross-source combinations work too. Connect Google Analytics to understand traffic-to-email conversion paths, or Gorgias to see whether customers who engage with your emails submit fewer support tickets.

Works with Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity

Ask AI Data Connector is not locked to a single AI tool. You can connect to any of the major platforms:

  • Claude uses MCP (Model Context Protocol) for a seamless, conversational experience with deep analytical capabilities
  • ChatGPT uses Custom GPTs with OpenAPI Actions
  • Gemini connects via function calling and REST API
  • Perplexity supports MCP on its Pro plan

Setup instructions for each are in your AI Tools dashboard. They all query the same data, so switching between tools or using multiple at once is straightforward.

Get started

The setup takes about 5 minutes: Sign up here, connect Klaviyo, and link your preferred AI tool. If you also have a Shopify store, connect that too — the cross-source queries alone are worth it.
