How to Connect Yotpo to AI (Reviews Data in Claude, ChatGPT & More)
Customer reviews are one of the richest data sources in e-commerce — and one of the hardest to actually use. Your Yotpo dashboard shows you star ratings and review counts, but answering real questions like "which products are getting worse reviews this quarter?" or "what are customers complaining about most?" means reading through reviews manually or exporting spreadsheets.
Connecting Yotpo to AI changes that entirely. Ask a question in plain English, and your AI tool queries your real Yotpo data to give you an answer in seconds.
Why connecting Yotpo to AI matters
Reviews tell you things no other data source can: what customers actually think about your products, in their own words. Star ratings capture sentiment at a glance, but the text inside reviews contains the detail — sizing issues, shipping complaints, quality praise, feature requests.
The problem is scale. Once you have hundreds or thousands of reviews, you can't read them all. Yotpo's dashboards give you averages and counts, but they can't answer nuanced questions like "are reviews for our new product line trending better or worse than the original?" or "which products have the most reviews mentioning quality issues?"
When you connect Yotpo to an AI tool like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity, the AI can work with your full review dataset — ratings, text, product associations, and trends over time. You ask questions, and it answers with your actual data.
This is especially useful for:
- Product quality monitoring — catch declining ratings before they hurt conversion rates
- Sentiment analysis — understand what customers love and hate without reading every review
- Launch tracking — see how new products are being received in real time
- Competitive intelligence — compare how different product lines perform in customer perception
- Review velocity — spot which products are generating buzz and which have gone quiet
What Yotpo data gets synced
Ask AI Data Connector syncs the following from your Yotpo account:
- Reviews — star ratings, review text, reviewer name, date, product association
- Products — average rating per product, total review count, rating distribution
- UGC — photos and videos submitted by customers alongside reviews
- Trends — rating changes over time, review submission velocity, sentiment shifts
All data is read-only. We never modify, create, or delete anything in your Yotpo account.
Step-by-step connection guide
The setup takes about 5 minutes.
Step 1: Sign up for Ask AI Data Connector
Go to ask-ai-data-connector.co.uk/signup and create a free account. No credit card required — you get a 7-day free trial.
Step 2: Get your Yotpo API credentials
- Log in to your Yotpo account
- Go to Settings and then General Settings
- Find your App Key and Secret Key — you'll need both
- If you don't see a secret key, generate one from the API section
These credentials provide read-only access to your review data.
Step 3: Connect Yotpo in Ask AI
From your Ask AI dashboard, go to Data Sources and click Yotpo. Paste your app key and secret, then click Connect. Your reviews will start syncing immediately — most accounts finish in under two minutes.
Step 4: Connect your AI tool
Navigate to AI Tools in your dashboard. You'll find setup instructions for each supported tool:
- Claude — paste the Remote MCP server URL into Settings, then Connectors, then Add Custom Connector
- ChatGPT — create a Custom GPT with the OpenAPI specification URL and API key
- Gemini — use the REST API endpoint with function calling
- Perplexity — connect via MCP (requires Pro plan)
Each tool queries the same underlying data, so pick whichever you prefer — or use more than one.
Example queries to try
Once connected, start with questions like these:
"Which products have the lowest average rating this quarter?"
"What are customers saying most in negative reviews — what themes come up?"
"How has my average product rating changed over the last 6 months?"
"Which products get the most reviews per month? Are any slowing down?"
"Show me products with declining ratings that need attention."
"What percentage of my reviews are 4 or 5 stars this month vs last month?"
"Which products have the best review-to-purchase ratio?"
The AI works with your real Yotpo data, so the answers reflect what's actually happening — not industry benchmarks.
Cross-source power: Yotpo plus Shopify
Connecting Yotpo on its own is useful. Connecting it alongside Shopify is where you start getting answers that no single dashboard can give you.
Reviews and revenue
With both data sources connected, you can ask questions that link customer sentiment directly to sales performance:
"Which products have high sales but declining review scores? Are we about to have a problem?"
"Do products with more reviews have higher conversion rates?"
"Compare revenue for products rated above 4.5 stars vs below 4 stars."
"Which products had the most refunds AND the worst reviews this month?"
Reviews and support
Add Gorgias to the mix and you can connect the full post-purchase picture:
"Do products with lower Yotpo ratings also generate more support tickets?"
"Which product issues appear in both negative reviews and support tickets?"
These cross-source queries normally require data exports from three different platforms, hours of spreadsheet work, and a fair amount of guesswork. With everything connected, you just ask.
Reviews and marketing
Connect Klaviyo alongside Yotpo and Shopify to understand how reviews influence the customer journey:
"Do customers who receive review request emails leave more detailed reviews?"
"What's the average order value for customers who left a 5-star review vs those who didn't?"
Works with Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity
Ask AI Data Connector is not locked to a single AI tool. Once your Yotpo data is synced, you can query it from:
- Claude uses MCP (Model Context Protocol) for a seamless, conversational experience with deep analytical capabilities
- ChatGPT uses Custom GPTs with OpenAPI Actions
- Gemini connects via function calling and REST API
- Perplexity supports MCP on its Pro plan
Setup instructions for each are in your AI Tools dashboard. They all query the same data, so switching between tools or using multiple is straightforward.
Get started
The setup takes about 5 minutes: Sign up here, connect Yotpo, and link your preferred AI tool. If you also have a Shopify store, connect that too — the cross-source queries that combine reviews with sales data are where the real value is.
